our love story
sarah and I first came across each other the old fashioned way…Match.com. I was initially drawn to her pretty smile (and apparent love for animals as she was standing next to a turtle in the photo) along with the fact that she was passionate about family and helping others. She was drawn to my dashing good looks, sparkling smile, and the genuine initial conversations we had over email. Our first date was at the Electric Cheetah, our now favorite Eastown restaurant. The conversation was easy and even on that first night it felt like we were old friends. Going forward, our relationship only grew as we recognized in each other hearts full of kindness, silly senses of humor, gentle spirits, and similar sets of values guiding our lives.
Joel planned and executed a perfect surprise proposal at the top of the Empire Bluff Trail in the Sleeping Bear Dunes. What I thought was just a sunset hike with my brother Matthew turned into one of the best moments of my life. Stationed along the way were family and friends who walked me up the dune. At the top was Joel, our parents, and a beautiful Lake Michigan sunset. It was an incredible day that we will remember forever.
From nights out in Grand Rapids, to days surrounded by the countryside, adventures in Traverse City, Spartan Football games, quality time with people we love, travels around the US, camping in the summers, and a shared love of the outdoors, we have fostered a beautiful relationship. We cannot wait to continue on our journey as husband and wife!
